Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2017
Grown at the Mawson Road Vineyard in Lenswood at 560m elevation on a steep south-facing aspect. Planted to the 777, 114, 115 and MV6 clones on sandy loam over clay. Abundant winter rain followed by a cool spring and summer heralded a late vintage. Hand-picked on 7 April, wild yeast fermented, 50% whole bunch with long maceration (41 days), pressed to barrel, 10 months in French oak (30% new, Francois Freres), unfined.

To prepare, he enrolled in wine science in Adelaide and absorbed as much knowledge as he could working stints in Australia with Cullen, Giaconda, Henschke, Shaw + Smith, Coldstream Hills and Veritas; in France with Domaine Leflaive, Meo-Camuzet, Vieux Telegraphe and Trevallon.
