Château Rauzan-Ségla 2019

The vineyard
The 37-year-old vines of the estate cover 70 hectares. In the heart of the Margaux appellation, the Château Rauzan-Ségla vineyard is planted in fine, deep clayey gravel typical of the Margaux appellation.

The vintage
2019 will be remembered at Rauzan-Ségla for the elegance of the wines. After a mild, dry winter, followed by a cool, wet spring, summer 2019 was very dry and hot. The autumn rains of mid-September helped avoid significant water stress for the vines, by allowing for a longer ripening process.

The winemaking
Manual plot-by-plot harvest in crates. Plot and intra-plot vinification with gravity-fed vatting, in thermoregulated stainless steel vats.

The ageing
18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new oak with medium and a medium-long toast. Racking “à l’esquive.” Fining with egg whites in barrels.

Grape varieties planted
Cabernet sauvignon (62%), merlot (35,5%), petit verdot (2%), cabernet franc (0,5%).

Vintage: 2019
Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Produced by Château Rauzan-Ségla

Château Rauzan-Ségla, or Château Rausan-Ségla, is a winery in the Margaux appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. Château Rauzan-Ségla is also the name of the red wine produced by this property. The wine produced here was classified as one of fifteen Deuxièmes Crus (Second Growths) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The alternate name "Rausan-Ségla" was also frequently used until 1994 when the original "Rauzan-Ségla" again became the official name

Tasting Notes

Composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35.5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet-purple colored. It is a little closed and broody to begin, soon fanning out to offer up notes of kirsch, black cherry preserves, and warm cassis, plus touches of smoked meats, wild blueberries, violets, and cedar chest, along with a hint of charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is very tightly wound with loads of earthy accents among the densely laden fruit and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and savory.
