Pazo Pondal Albarino 2021

Pazo Pondal is an Atlantic Albariño—balanced, elegant, and complex. The vineyards of Pazo Pondal have an average age of over 35 years. All of their vineyards are located in the Condado do Tea region. They are 100% Albariño, cultivated using both trellis training and the traditional pergola system, characteristic of the area. The vineyard plots include Correlos, Leira Longa, and Paravedra.

For vineyards that are not organic, Pazo Pondal are certified in Integrated Production, a cultivation system that ensures high-quality harvests free of insecticides and with reduced phytosanitary treatments. This approach safeguards our viticultural heritage while protecting the environment.

VITICULTURE AND WINEMAKING

Traditional and partially organic. Selected plots from old vines. Hand-harvested in 20kg crates. Only free-run juice, without pressing. Controlled fermentation with native yeasts. Aged on its own lees for 8 months. Part of the blend is aged in French oak barrels, while the rest remains on fine lees for 18 months. This wine is established as an age-worthy white, thanks to its high acidity and winemaking process, ensuring a favorable evolution over the next 5–10 years.

Vintage: 2021
Grape Varieties: Albarino

Produced by Pazo Pondal

Pazo Pondal is a family winery founded in 1998. It is located in Arbo (Pontevedra), one of the best sub-regions for Rías Baixas D.O. Albariño.

The family winery has a history of striving to produce wines that express their terroir, wines that are full of the fruit and floral aromas that characterise the complexity and style of Pazo Pondal wines.

The estate, located on the north bank of the Río Miño, includes 15 hectares of trellised vineyards where they cultivate their Albariño, the Galician grape par excellence, with great care and dedication.

Their forefathers from Germany were unknowingly the architects of this dream. In 1976, the family began the tradition of growing grapes, especially Albariño, devoting a lifetime to viticulture and transmitting passion, respect, and good practice to a whole generation of children and grandchildren.

Tasting Notes

A complex nose with terpenic notes that have developed over time, blending seamlessly with balsamic hints, white fruits, delicate pastry nuances, citrus, and a persistent floral presence. Its ever-present minerality harmonizes and structures this symphony of aromas. On the palate, it has a broad and dense texture that perfectly balances its pronounced acidity, giving it great depth, while a subtle saline touch highlights its unique character. Ideal for pairing with grilled red meat and stews, as its acidity and minerality cleanse and refresh the palate. Perfect pairings also include rice dishes, oysters, fish, and seafood, where its terpenic and mineral profile enhances flavors, adding a new dimension to the tasting experience.
