Barossa Valley Shiraz, Stonewell Road 2022
Growing season: The Naimanya vineyard sits high in the Eden Valley at 520 meters altitude, on the south-west fringe of the tiny sub-region known as Flaxman’s Valley. The soils are sandy loam, gravel and quartz over clay. Fair winter rains were punctuated by a rare hailstorm in late October, damaging young shoots and reducing yields. There followed a mild summer and unusually temperatures never exceeded 40C!
Winemaking: Handpicked on the 3rd of March, 50% destemmed, 50% whole bunch, wild fermented in open fermenter, pressed to French oak, matured for 20 months in barrel (15% new).
